Command Sgt. Maj. Lowell D. Churchman currently serves as the regimental command sergeant major of the 168th Regiment Regional Training Institute (RTI), Fort Carson, and commandant of the Basic Leader Course.

Churchman entered the Army March 8, 1983. Throughout his career, he has held every leadership position in infantry and cavalry units from fire team leader to first sergeant. He earned a Master of Education in Human Resources Development from Colorado State University and a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from the University of Iowa.

Churchman’s previous assignments include: assistant inspector general; action officer for 16 events both in Slovenia and Continental United States (CONUS) to assist the Slovene Army in NCO Corps development; led joint (Army/Air) Colorado delegation to Slovenia to instruct on NCO roles, traditions, Army Values and Ethics, and other NCO leadership issues; assistant to the secretary to the general staff/state command sergeant major; Operations NCO for Battle Staff Familiarization Event with 18th Biological, Radiological, Chemical BN, Slovenian Army; selected for XVIII Airborne Corps staff (J1), Operation Iraqi Freedom, Camp Victory, Baghdad, Iraq; deployed to Afghanistan as member of the 327th Embedded Training Team (ETT) as the ARSIC-W S3 Integration Cell NCOIC/senior operations NCO mentor to the Afghanistan National Army (ANA) 207th Corps HQ Staff, G3 sergeant major, and Police (ANP) operations coordination center; Operations NCO/schools manager, 168th Regiment (RTI), Fort Carson; led Joint Colorado delegation (Army / Air) to Jordan for NCO Professional Development TCT; first sergeant, HHC 1-157 IN, Fort Carson; senior human resources NCO, 89th Troop Command, Denver; Operations NCO, USNORTHCOM, Peterson Air Force Base.

His military education includes: Primary Leadership Development Course, Light Leader Course, Basic NCO Course PH I and II, Infantry Advanced NCO Course (Active Component), Department of the Army Inspector General Course, Battle Staff NCO Course (ASI 2S), 71L1O MOSQ (Distinguished Honor Graduate), Readiness NCO Course, Operations NCO Course, Combat Advisor Course, First Sergeant Course, Brigade/Battalion S1 Course, Brigade S1 Operations Course, U.S. Army Sergeants Major Academy Graduate.

Churchman’s awards and decorations include: the Bronze Star Medal; Meritorious Service Medal with four Oak Leaf Clusters; Joint Meritorious Unit Award; Joint Service Commendation Medal; Army Commendation Medal with four Oak Leaf Clusters; Air Force Commendation Medal; Army Achievement Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters; Good Conduct Medal (seventh award); Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster; National Defense Service Medal with Bronze Service Star; Afghanistan Campaign Medal with Campaign Star; Iraq Campaign Medal with Campaign Star (second award); Global War on Terrorism Service Medal; Armed Forces Reserve Medal with M Device and 20 Year Device (second award); NCO Professional Development Ribbon (Numeral 4 - USASMA Graduate); Army Service Ribbon; Overseas Service Ribbon (second award); Army Reserve Component Overseas Training Ribbon; NATO Medal; Medal of Multinational Cooperation (Republic of Slovenia); and the Combat Infantryman Badge.
